Hi Darren,
I would do what Pedro suggests if I was short of money. You can sand the edge away and it won't be very visible. If you have spare cash, buy wider cloth. The mucking around is not worth it in the long run.
Where are you going to race it? The Yarra?

: Hi,

: I am about to glass a S&G racing kayak (TK1) and the cloth I am using doesn't
: fully cover the sides at the widest point - draping it over the hull, it
: comes about half way up each side.

: So, my options are: 1. apply along keel and then add two smaller bits on the
: side
: 2. do the hull in 4 pieces - 1 at each end then 2 in the middle, joined at
: the keel
: 3. just glass the bottom of the hull and leave the upper sides un-glassed

: I think option 3 isn't attractive, although it won;t see a lot of abuse this
: wekens it around the cockpit area where it may flex.

: Of the first two, what would be the best option? Both for strengthe and
: cosmetics. I assume I'd need to do an overlap of a couple of inches. Will
: this leave a ridge/high spot? Of do I do a very small overlap and sand it
: out - but then this would leave an unglassed 'line' which could be weaker
: than surrounding areas.

: Any opinions on the best way to lay up the glass for best effect?

: Thanks,
: Darren
