Paddle: Take apart GP

I decided to cut my Greenland style paddle in two and make it a take apart, using Tom Yost's instructions, for ease in transporting. I am using a metal ferrule I got from Chesapeake LC and would like to glue it to the loom. What should I use to glue the metal to the wood or should I just put a stainless steel screw through the screw hole and leave it at that?
