This varies from boat to boat, but, generally, at up to 4 knots, the shorter boat is more efficient. At 4knots, they tend to tie, and at 4.5knots, about the point at which wave making resistance for canoes and kayak kicks in significantly, the longer boat becomes for efficient.

In the past, I've run a few kayaks and canoes through KAPER in exactly the way you want and found it can vary as little as 1% difference to much greater based on the hull design.
