Years ago there was a builder that posted alot,we will call him Lord Valdamore, built all of his kayaks out of 1/8 inch strips. There have been sample testing done and posted. I say make three different styles of kayaks and stay away from rocks. There was a 34lb local stripper the guy used for work outs in close, then make 45lb for long trips and Guillemot for play in the waves and surf, life is good. I would also say you would also need to be tight on the wood working, no fixing things by sanding alot. My two cents, Don
