You should think about an Iggy. It's a really nice low volume boat. And it'd fit your SO perfectly. It's a very easy kayak to strip.

: If I go plans, about how much should I expect to pay in materials? Strips

I think I put about $600 into my last kayak and that includes three KajakSport hatches.
