Especially since you can do the job yourself, absolutely go with the auto clearcoat. Here is my Night Heron with a Dupont clearcoat--not Imron, but the "next product down". The same stuff the auto body shop I went to uses on their classic car restorations. I can't imaging beating that finish! And just think, every couple years, a light sanding, some resin to fill in the gouges on the hull, and a new coat and it is like new. VersusI couldn't find a single imperfection, whereas I know that 7 layers of varnish, in addition to taking me forever, would have had innumerable imperfections.

One thought though: I suggest you use extra layers of the clearcoat on the high abrasion areas like the cockpit coaming and the edges of the hatch covers and hatch openings, where your carry handles rub and bounce against the deck, etc. I found that after a couple years, the clearcoat must have rubbed off, exposing the glass/resin to UV, with subsequent breakdown of the resin and some delaminating.

Good luck, and have fun.
