...heavy, stiff, brittle and not particularly fun to work with either hand or power tools. I found that it doesn't plane well and the surface can shatter if you machine it, such as when using a router to round the edges. I don't like the stuff at all. That said, mechanically, it should work fine for stringers, especially if you follow Paul's advice and reduce their size appropriately.
