Many decades ago I copyrighted sculptures used for vacuuming 3d plastic pictures and casting molds. The changes in the designs that could make a for a new copyright was always blurry to me. You would have to read the exact language of the law and decide if your change was enough so as not to be sued. As I remember a copyright only lasted so may years.
