Yes to your post above. I was playing with the magnetic fin release system until it violated the KIS principal. I made improvements on it and can interchange it with my current system but don't.

Your comments on steerable fins intrigue me because earlier today Tim N. the founder of Ocean Kayaks was describing a simple system that functioned with three cables and had the normal size skeg slot. I don't have a clear sense of how it works but I will see him again Tuesday and will give you an update if I learn more and he is ok with disclosing it.
