It depends on which tradition we're talking about ;)

Greenland, Canada - coaming is attached to the skin only, skin is pulled under and sewn to the inside

Alaska - coaming is lashed to the frame (sometimes with supports between the coaming and gunwales at the middle of the coaming) the skin pulled over over the top from the outside

There are probably exceptions to the above, however...

: As I remember the coaming on a traditional SOF isn't attached to the frame,
: only attached to the skin. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong
