Kurt is too modest. I cut holes slightly smaller than the shock cord at rest, then stretch the cord to pull it through the holes. The cord seals the hole reasonably well. Yanking out some of the rubber in the cord makes it easier to pull through. I tie a simple knot under-deck and often secure it with a drop of super glue. No silicon or sealant, because we have bigger worries than an ounce of water in the cockpit during a day of rolling.

Paddle park cords are done similarly as in the photo: a simple knot underneath. That's another of Kurt's great design features.
