Right you are: it has no aesthetics. I made my daughter's pointy in comparison to the plans. Boats built with the round-corner design look like giant tongue depressers floating on the lake. Pointier is better. As for weight: the eight footers weigh maybe 20-25 lbs., so there's not much weight to save.
