Tell your friend that game went out with Nehru jackets and high-heeled boots. Even if that is a lie, at least, it will keep you from ending up grinding fiberglass. Bad for the lungs and it itches,too.
You can buy little rotomolded kayaks brand new for what the ingredients would cost to build a "polo kayak", whatever that is. And the little rotomolded kayaks can be used for fishing or other more useful activities when the "kayak polo" fad crashes.
If you want some hard numbers you have to come up with some details or a picture.
There is only one book about doing paddleboat hulls in fiberglass. It's "Building Your Kevlar Canoe" by Moran. Don't let the title put you off. It's about building a fibergalss canoe with a layer of Kevlar in it. If the book doesn't turn you off nothing will.
