: I recently finished a expedition single strip built kayak and am interested
: in trying a skin on frame. What is the average cost to build, hours to
: build, pros and cons, plans? I really know very little about them except
: they look light. My wife says I should build her one.
You have a very open ended question. First of all, you need to decide between a traditional steam bent ribbed yak versus a Yost with plywood cross members. The Yosts are cheaper, easier to build and therefor faster. Check out qajaqusa.org for traditional ribbed yaks and just check out Tom's webpage for info on his yaks. Yostwerks.com
AS far as time, many people make them over the winter and chip away at them slowly. 300-500 dollars maybe
