I've been using a Pentax WPi for about two years now, and find it's a reasonably good camera given that it is designed specifically to do one thing - stay alive around water. Have gotten some great shots with it, but find it isn't as tolerant of tricky lighting as other cameras, especially my wife's venerable Canon G2. Colour rendition is usually quite good, and the shots are sharp for a 6mp camera. It also has a surprisingly good macro - in fact, that's one of it's strongest features, and one of the best macros I've used.

The camera is around salt water all the time; no problems, but make sure the battery compartment door is latched! It's rinsed with fresh water whenever it is exposed to salt water. We keep short pieces of natural chamois looped around our PFD shoulder straps, and wipe the lens frequently; I've also been known, much to my shame, to lick the lens when things get really salty!

Negatives - the worst by far is the lack of a viewfinder - in any sort of bright sun, this camera gives the term "Point-n-Shoot' a whole new meaning - I just can't see much of anything on the screen. The flat glass protective cover does shield the lens, but it's real easy to get sun flare on that flat glass - have lost some great shots thru that.

My wife, incidentally, has a Pentax 43wr - the last Pentax waterproof produced with a viewfinder - and it is a fine little camera. Wish Pentax would bring out an updated version of the WP series with a viewfinder - I for one would be willing to pay a significant premium to be able to see what I'm doing when taking pix....
