Hi all, just thought you might like to see a picture of a traditional Tasmanian indigenous bark canoe. This one is the first that has been made for many many years and was done as a project to resurrect a traditional set of skills. The smaller ones carried one or two people but larger ones could carry up to eight. This one has only a modest upturn at stem and stern but the photographs in the background show some with much larger upturns similar to the more extreme Greenland kayaks. It appears these were mostly used in shallow water as they were propelled with long poles.
cheers
David
