Every boat is NOT worthy of restoration. You have to pick and chose so as not to throw good money after bad. Plus there is the safety question.
This is just an opinion but from the little you have said so far this boat doesn't sound like a keeper.

: This past Sunday I became the owner of a strip boat that has not had much tlc
: for a long time. I need to repair it and it will become my wife's boat.
: She would like it painted so the final product does not have to be all
: that pretty--it will be covered with paint.

: I have been told this was the first boat built by Duane S.

: I thought it would be a simple matter of fixing the few areas where the glass
: had lifted. I pulled of pieces that seemed to have lost their grip on the
: wood, figured it was better to get to the firm connection while on dry
: land.

: There are a few areas where the wood has an almost black stain, but it seems
: to fairly sound. But then what do I know. There are areas where the resin
: has been weathered totally off the glass, I suppose UV damage.
: The bottom of the hull is in much better shape and needs very little repair
: (I think)

: So first question: How do I tell what glass needs to be removed? I planned on
: feathering the sound glass putting on patches and then fill coating the
: whole thing.

: I have taken a few digital pictures which I will post if you can direct me to
: that how to do it. I am new to digital cameras as well.

: The boat bug has bitten me good I now have three in the garage and one in the
: back yard.

: Thanks for any suggestions I would like to learn what I am doing with a
: minimum of detours.
