Hi,

I'd like to build a racing kayak to participate in sea kayak races here on the East Coast of the US.

This should be a kayak for an amateur holding down a full-time office job. Assuming that the really fast people will pick a kayak in the Unlimited Class or a Surf Ski, mine should be in the Fast Sea Kayak class, but be as close in dimensions to the Unlimited Class as it can be.

I downloaded the class requirements for the Blackburn Challenge, but would like to gather some additional requirements for other races. Are there some common requirements these races converge on? I read somewhere that concave surfaces seem to be banned, while beam width requirements have gone away in favor of water level ratios.

It looks like the Epic 18X for example seems to meet all requirements and do rather well, judging from the results.

Regards,

Ruedi
