Thanks Ken. The hatch cover shape is similar to the hatch shape on my Shearwater Merganser. I simply let the sides of the hatch cover be parallel to the shear line, to follow the shape of the kayak. The closing method is derived from Eric Shade's Shearwater Boats design, using an ash closing bar. You can find that info on his web site. Jay Babina uses basically the same system. I am using a stainless steel cap screw to snug the cover down, which means I need a hex key (with a couple of extra keys in my life jacket pocket).
