The site my boats designer recommended for carbon fiber has apparently thrown in the towel. Any recommendations?

I've had only bad luck finding flexible ply for the coaming riser; how about using a veneer, re-inforcing with external FG/epoxy, and then building the inner layers with FG and carbon fiber ala Vaclavs' method?

Do most here use the twill Carbon fiber? Cut strips/place around the coaming rim, or cut one piece for the top and piece in the inside? I've seen the second method in pictures, wonder if the first would be more attractive?

As you can see, I'm at an impasse. Those that can, do. Those waiting on shipping post on the Forum.
