It's really no big deal. I just filled a length of clear vinyl tubing with water and clamped the ends to each end of the T-joist I used. I added wedges under the sawhorse legs until the meniscii (ok, water levels) measured the same distance to the top side. I never bothered to unclamp the tubing so I'd check once in a while during the build.
