I have used peel ply extensively building carbon fiber racing boats and building wood strippers. One very useful application on strippers is when you are glassing the hull/deck seam. It is hard to squegie the edges of a narrow strip of glass without releasing fibers. On the outside seam, you can wet out a 2" strip, cover it with a 4" wide strip of peel ply. You can then squegie this out you will get a smooth surface and a smooth transition on the edges of the 2" strip without lots of fiberglas strings. Without peel ply I used to do 2 or three fill coats and a lot of sanding to get the seam invisable. With peel ply you can get away with light 220 sanding and one fill coat.

Peel ply will definately save you sanding. It will also save some on overall epoxy consumption with fewer fill coats.

The attached picture shows a mold for a carbon fiber wing mast I built. I laid the the inital layer with peel ply so that when the part was removed from the mold we pulled off the peel ply and could put additional layler of carbon on on the outside surface without sanding. You will notice that peel ply conforms well to curved surfaces as long as the surface doesn't curve sharply in two directions at once.

Jack

: Depends on what you're building. Any surface made from plywood, peelply can
: be used, it's just polyester cloth afterall. Not many uses on a stripper
: but for S&G it could be useful. There was a method someone had awile back
: of using something like mylar film that was supposed to give a very smooth
: coating on flat surfaces that may be better than using peelply if anyone
: has a link.
