Fiberglass and epoxy will go where you put it. That can't be said for wood strips. Strips have a certain amount of "a mind of their own". they will not follow each and every undulation. You need to apply a wood batten to the glass hull to see if the batten will touch at enough points to be able to give you a fair replica of the model.
