Shop: Waterstones- work great!!!

Hello all,

Just an update- I got the waterstones that I ordered which were 220, 1000, 4000, and 8000. They work amazing and put a mirror edge on my blades. I just finished planing the edge of a wood surfboard which was striped with balsa and mahogany. The balsa of course cuts easily, but at some points the balsa meets the mahogany and it's side grain on the balsa and end grain on the mahogany and somehow I have to maintain a fair curve while planing through these polar opposite woods. It was easy with my newly sharpened blades. I just had to push a bit harder for the mahogany but it cut clean and easily and didn't bind or skip when it went from balsa to mahogany. At $125 for the whole kit including a flattening stone I'd say it was a great investment. If you like sharp tools go get a waterstone set!

One note- you definately need a flattening stone with these, especially for the finer grit stones, as they do wear easily.

Best regards,

Malcolm
