It looks WAY too big to me

While it will certainly cut fabric, that huge blade is a serious case of overkill and frankly, it looks like a liability to me. You can buy an inexpensive soldering iron or gun with blade tip that will do the job and be more handy. Search the HF site for "soldering" and you'll find a variety of suitable tools under $13. On the low end, for example, you could take their $4.99 soldering pencil and make a cutting tip for it by hammering the end of a nail into a flat blade. If you really want to "splurge", you could spring for the $12.99 soldering gun that comes with a cutting tip. I prefer to use a gun, as it's only hot when I want it to be.
