Another thing to consider is that the paddler needs to be strong enough and fit enough to paddle at the speed where the longer hull has an advantage.
A weak paddler may gain nothing by using a longer kayak. A superhuman paddler can get the potential benefit of a longer kayak.
The formulae assume flat water. Once waves appear, things change.
