Bummer, sorry to hear that. I have a friend that went through this process recently. He found that solvents worked poorly and the most effective method for him was a scraper and heat gun. If there is a seal coat under the glass, it should not be too hard to remove the gooey resin. If the bad batch is on bare wood, it will be a lot more work. Also, if you have to scrape to bare wood it would be a miracle if the patch area does not end up a different color than the surrounding glass. You can strip all the glass in 2 or 3 hours and start over. Depends on your tolerance for imperfection.

. : I have been hanging around the forum for several years as I have
: built a stich & glue and two strippers.

: Working on my fourth boat, I have my first disaster with epoxy. I
: laid up the outside of the hull about 10 days ago and added
: three fill coats. I am using Raka 127 resin with their 350 Non
: Blushing hardener. Doing some rough sanding, I found a couple of
: spots that did not look right. As I sanded and poked at them, I
: found soft epoxy under the hard fill coats. I started to pull at
: it and the glass started to peal off. Under the glass was a soft
: tacky, gooey layer. As I expanded my investigation, it appears
: that somehow I mixed up a bad batch of epoxy. The glass is sound
: on either side of an area about 3 feet long on one side of the
: boat (about one batch). I have pulled most of the glass off of
: the soft epoxy.

: I figured that the only thing to do is to remove the glass from the
: area with the epoxy problem. Then I need to remove the gooey
: mess down to clean wood. Any thoughts on how to remove the mess?
: It instantly clogs up sandpaper. Any solvents that I might try?

: Once I get it all cleaned up, I will lay on a patch overlapping the
: good glass and that should salvage the boat.

: Any suggestions would be appreciated.

: Dave
