Skin-on-Frame: Cloning an old S&G into a SOF

I have a friend with what was once a very nice and much sought after kayak rotting in his back yard. It's one of those that would cost a lot if you bought one and I don't think there is a kit or plans for it. Copyright infringement issues aside, I wonder how one would go about recreating it into a SOF. The overall shape is still there and I believe it is still firm enough to find a way to transfer the shapes for forms but how?

This is an exercise in how and this project is not going to happen. I just want to know how you would go about it. My first thought was to go Yost with it and divide it up into 8 stations and literally cut the boat into segments or use some soldering wire and wrap the outside at intervals, then reduce and transfer.

Dang winter cold and rain has a way of bringing out the worst in ideas :)
