It´s just regular electrical tape available almost everywhere from Wal-mart to hardware stores from 1 dollar. (I used 3M´s Temflex1550).
It will stick to the skin quite well but it will not provide any structural bond; I used it to cover the irregularities and staples.

In the Sea Rider the staples are in the top side of the gunwales (the deck), while in the Nikumi they are in the side.
I think it´s quite a good finish if you don´t use a stripe of wood.
