About five years ago I built a Great Auk from the offsets in Nick's book. I used a CAD program, and had an 11 x 17 ink jet printer at the time.
It would've been as easy and fun to just lay them out on a drafting board with a T-square and a rule.

The two sets of Offsets are basically coordinates for a grid, one is x,y but the other is y,x once I got that figured out the rest was easy.

What I did was make a cross-hairs center marker, then use the offsets entered numerically to place each marker. (I used Vectorworks, so the coordinates were for the upper left corner of the object, so long as I kept the distances consistent to my actual centers, everything went well.)

I would always add a grid pattern, waterline, centerline, etc... to every pattern, and if in CAD I would include both a vertical and a horizontal ruler to check after printing to make sure everything is the size you expect. If you add a couple 45 degree lines, they help aligning the several multi-page froms.

If you are not going to modify the design, as I did, the cost of buying Nick's patterns is well worth the time saved. Building and paddling are a lot more fun than fiddling around on a computer.
My only regret after five years is that I didn't do it five years earlier.
