Skin-on-Frame: Poly paint for nylon skin?

I'm gearing up for my second skin on frame open boat build and am wondering if polyurethane paint can be used as a sealant/finish for the ballistic nylon skin. The design is going to be some form of classic pulling boat like those in John Gardner's "Building Classic Small Craft" (gotta love that book!). I'm still torn between the Rangeley, Peapod and Herreshoff pulling boat designs, but am expecting to use 5 stringers per side which should give the exterior a nice lapstrake look. Since I want a classic white exterior finish, I'm looking for something that might replace the Zar poly finish that I have used before. I'm aware of Cory's coating but would like to stick with something that the kids can help apply (undoubtedly in multiple coats).
