Strip: help

So, I am at the point of sanding my kayak before fiberglassing, I was working on the bow section of the deck and (I will admit I didn't do a great job with the strips laying flush at the bow), I sanded right through one of the strips on the edge, and the rest of the bow seems to be pretty thin (1/8"). My question is: how thin is too thin, and what do I do about the part that I sanded through. I already put a new strip in it's place but I had to sand it down to blend in and I was just left with another extremely thin piece.
