: I have actually never built a stripper before but plan to. I am
: thinking if you want rigidity and dead straight, buy a piece of
: engineered structural beam stock from the local lumberyard. A
: common trade name is MicroLam and are available in a multitude
: of widths and lengths and are typically 1-3/4" thick. Rip
: it to the width you want and save the rest for the next project.
: If your real thrifty, cruise the job sites for leftovers or hit
: up the Habitat for Humanity stores.

You just need a stable base. For an external strongback I use a stretched string as a reference for straight and level, the strongback just has to hold the forms and the string. Mine is just 4 layers of 2x4's bolted together with a 1x8 top screwed in place. Comes apart fairly easily for storage if needed. It's not all that straight, the stretched string though is.
