Kurt,
I am having the same problem. With an ocean cockpit coaming the back band folds down under my butt when I slide in. There is a lot of wiggling to get it back right.
I am going to pull mine out and try no back band. Heck when I paddle I lean slightly forward anyhow. When I lean back that should allow more room.
