Interestingly, the most comfortable back band I have ever used was actually three canoe carrier foam blocks jammed into the coamingbehind my back. To be used only on a warm flat day as this kind of set up can't be used with a spray skirt but wowie! very comfortable. The blocks are not adjustable but darned comfortable. This was my alternative kayak equipment discovery for 2010.
