This might not be a good idea

I can't see how that idea of allowing the glass from the deck to overlap the deck has any advantages.

I suspect that it will create a lumpy join. Epoxy will come down onto the part of the glass that overlaps. It will either soak in by capillary action or will dribble down as you wet out the glass on the deck. That will make it impossible for that bit of glass to sit flat.

Why did you want to do it that way? I suspect that the problems you will have trying to deal with the lumpy bits of glass that won't sit flat will be much worse than any work people have to do to feather the edge of a strip of glass applied in the usual way.

Although I am always willing to learn new ways of doing things, I can see some serious problems and I can't see any advantage at all.
