Robert,
I've had good success using contact cement, but putting the pieces together while the contact cement is not quite dried and still a little slippery. I had the exact dilemma you describe - where there is no possible way you can get the all the surfaces together in the desired alignment without one prematurely sticking. What I did was to apply the contact cement just as I normally would on the mating surfaces of the minicell and kayak, but before putting the minicell into the kayak, I spread another very thin application of contact cement onto the minicell. The bit of fresh/wet contact cement will prevent the premature sticking and allow the piece to be adjusted to just where you want it. Because the glue is not yet dry, you will have to clamp the minicell hold it in place overnight.

: I shaped some minicell as backrest / side padding to fit in my
: latest s&g kayak. Its a snug fit, and I know that, using
: contact cement, I would have trouble getting the pieces into
: position without them touching the hull, and sticking
: prematurely. Any suggestions for a NON contact type adhesive,
: one that will allow a little movement before it bonds? I suppose
: I could use epoxy, but I was hoping for something else. Even
: just a few minutes of open time would make the difference.
