Well, personally I agree I like a small, often round, cockpit. But you can fit a big cockpit to allow you to be tight in the seat, pretty common on production boats.

And on a really narrow boat the boat will limit how wide the cockpit can be. On my modified Yost Sea Ranger the coaming is as wide as the boat is :)
