It should look something like this.

When you remove the thickness of the end stem, the bottom of the first (or in this case the last) form should be where the internal stem starts.

Notice that the depth of the internal stem changes along its length, which also means that the angle of the bevel changes too.

The outside edge of the internal stem was where the outside edge of the end stem was on the plans. It replaces what was cut off.
