The values books and websites list for SG's are "typical" of the species at a given moisture content. There can be a LOT of variability depending on where and how the tree grew, how it was dried, etc. If weights an issue, it's always good to go through the lumber piles and find the lightest boards.. if the lumber yard allows self-picking. That's a whole other topic.
