Hello Matt,

I regret that I have not tried System 3, but have been so happy with West System that I continue to use it. The new 207 Special Clear (as opposed to the old 207 "Special Coating") is crystal clear, and stays clear over time, at least from my test where I have kept a board outside for six months and it's stayed clear. There are a lot of different resins, and I've heard mostly good about all of them.

The G5 is a quick-curing 5-minute epoxy by West System. It dries clear, but it does not absorb into the wood as well as thinner 105 resin mixes, so if you use it on something you're going to later coat over with epoxy you might get a different coloration in that area because of the resin not soaking into the wood as much for the G5 as it does for the 105. Also as noted, the stuff seems to me to be VERY sensitive to mix ratios. I have often had it fail to harden due to guessing the mix for small quantities... a glop of one, a glop of the other. It really has to be measured properly.

I have not tried the G20, but it's supposed to be similar to G5 but slightly flexible for stuff like repairing rotomolded kayaks.
