Be sure to figure in time. Time is money. Is it worth your while to do all of that work yourself, or to have someone do it? If you don't have a lot of experience with table saw/router/planer it can take some time. If you're moving slow on your S+G because of time and/or wood working issues, would you rather spend time cutting strips, or building the boat?

I know for a lot of us money is a primary concern. I certainly couldn't afford to build a boat if I bought a kit, but I have plenty of woodworking experience and simple tasks like milling strips take no time at all. If time is more of a concern for you than money???
