I've owed boats with both Beckson and Bomar deckplates. The Bomars are very secure, but they're also very heavy, easily 2-3 times the weight of a Beckson. They also protrude more below the deck, which makes getting your gear in and out more difficult, particularly in low volume boats. If you want ensure that a Beckson deckplate won't pop out, it's a simple matter to make turning security tabs that use the mounting screw holes.Turned inward, they secure the cover, turned outward, the hatch can be removed. That's what Betsie Bay does on their boats.
