First question:
I'm going to polyurethane my first kayak this weekend and I'm a little nervous. I'm going to use minwax spar urethane, and I'm mostly wondering if anyone thins their oil-based poly before applying (skin is 9oz polyester). My neighbor (who conveniently also make SOF boats) was telling me he has to work hard to get the fabric to drink up the 2-part poly he uses (it's not corey's goop, but I gather it's basically the same deal). I suspect the spar urethane is a lot thinner to start with so I won't have an issue, but I just thought I'd ask before I have a go at coating my baby. I'm just nervous and I don't want to botch it.

Second (totally unrelated) question:
REI has a kokatat dry top on the clearance rack that fits me perfectly for $140. Worth it? I don't really plan on buying a dry suit (too expensive, don't kayak enough in conditions where I'd need one), I could make a tuilik, but It'd be too hot for a lot of things, so I'd have to make a spray skirt also anyways. I'm thinking the dry top + spray skirt + wetsuit long john (which I already own) will cover just about any situation I might find myself in.
