I got some dynel fabric to use for edging on hand paddles and paddle blades for whitewater use, and before I got to that point on those two projects I had a chance to use some repairing a keel strip on a commercial kayak for someone.

Dynel is not just tough, it is super tough. Super duper tough. It's REALLY hard to sand and does not feather well. It's a bit deceptive because the raw fabric is soft and fluffy like a kid's toy. For a keel strip I'd definitely recommend dynel tube. The fabric tends to curl up at the edges, so I used the tube, which was the right width and didn't have the issue with the edges. It's white, and fairly opaque.
