I hear ya- nothing like fixing on the fly. Definately the nylon would work as a hinge. As for the flutter, I didn't mean just when surfing. When paddling on one fin I designed intentionally a little thin for flex, it fluttered like crazy at about 5 knots up. It was kind of annoying if nothing else. Yours is short enough it probably won't be an issue.
