A kayak pivots from its lowest point. When the stern is free as in a ww kayak, the most effective correction stroke is the stern draw.

A central skeg slows side drift without sacrificing control.

A skeg about two feet behind the balance point will give the kayak a dominant direction without locking up the stern. Of course a central skeg can only be effective if the stern is not already locked up by design.

Tracking is often spoken as a positive in relation to sea kayak design but to my way of thinking, tracking is a negative and costs you control.
