Each time I hear/read about end pours I get puzzled. Not about what it is but the why? Epoxy is heavier than water, wood is lighter (mostly). Putting a wooden block/timber in as stem 'reinforcement' gives a nice large gluing surface to stick the strips.

The end pour isn't really stem reinforcement; it's 'tip reinforcement'. (The 'internal stem is a different animal than a wood end block, IMO) It's fairly difficult to get a solid block that fills the entire extreme end of the boat unless the deck is flat - I generally have to fit blocks in both the deck and hull, and glue them together when I join the hull&deck. If I'm not absolutely confident that the end of the boat is 'solid', I'll put some epoxy in there afterward ('mini-end-pour' ?). I always fit the end blocks after the boat is stripped.

I use U-bolts as end fittings (secure for lines, lockable as well), so I want a fair bit of solid stuff in each end.

So, for beginners it's quite a bit easier to do an end pour. (And, that technique comes from the 'glass boat' world, so perhaps we can consider it 'traditional'?? ;-) )
