This is true! Of course, a lot of water runs down the shaft of a GP and promptly deposits itself on your spray skirt, I found out, the hard way, that when using a GP you need to have a skirt that does not have holes in it!! Unbeknownst to me, I had a skirt that had a number of "bare" spots on the deck around the tunnel. If you held it up to the light you could see right through the neoprene. I discovered this on a rather "bumpy" paddle one day when my boat had about 1.5" water in the cockpit. I noticed that the boat felt very unstable in the swells and and did not realize the problem 'till I looked inside! Yikes!!! Afterwards, I noticed that water would run down the shaft of the paddle and pool around the deck of the skirt until it, rather quickly, dripped inside the boat. A lot of water can be shipped this way over the course of a few hours on the water!!
