A good point was raised about handling long, heavy planks. When using a skilsaw the plank is not moved between cuts which is an advantage.

Skilsaws are cheap so don't buy used, if the bearing is worn it will not cut accurately. It's worth it to pay a bit extra for ball bearings. The strips I cut with mine are accurate within 1/64" over their entire length except at the very ends, which get tapered for scarfing anyway *

A table saw can do better but only when you acquire experience setting it up and learning how to feed the material. Of course, if you know someone competent with a table saw they might do the cutting for you . . .

* It pays to think outside of the box. I don't have a handy woodyard that caters to my need for clean, long planks with straight grain and consistent grain orientation, so I just go to my local hardware store and buy fence planks, which are 5/8" thick, 6 or 8 feet long, real western red cedar and they're cheap. About 50% are OK for boat building, the rest get used for repairing fences. I have become expert at scarfing them for longer lengths but a lot of strip builders don't bother.
